Clipper, is proud to have been announced as a finalist in two categories – the Distribution Development of the Year and the Green Supply Chain Development of the Year – in this year’s Retail Week Supply Chain Awards.

The prestigious awards recognise and reward excellence in all aspects of the retail supply chain, and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 12 September 2012.

The Distribution Development of the Year award recognises the best new development for a retailer and Clipper has been shortlisted for its purpose-built, deconsolidation supercentre, Wynyard Park.

Opening in September 2012, the 350,000 sq ft development near Teesport in the North East will serve in-store and online channels for retailers. As its first customer for the new facility, Clipper has secured an unprecedented 10 year deal with Asda to provide deconsolidation solutions for its George clothing business.

Innovation, cost-effectiveness and accessibility were all considered as part of the shortlisting process and Clipper is extremely proud to have been selected as a finalist prior to the opening of Wynyard Park on this basis.

The second award for which Clipper has been shortlisted is the Green Supply Chain Development of the Year, which recognises the Freight Consolidation Centre (FCC) serving London’s Regent Street.

FCCs benefit the local environment by reducing final journey leg vehicle trips, freight mileage, vehicle congestion, parking and idling time, noise, CO2 and other emissions, whilst increasing footfall through improved access and environment to increase economic activity.

Clipper has already successfully proved the concept of out-of-town FCCs at the Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield and has now been shortlisted for the Retail Week Supply Chain Award for taking the shopping centre model into the centre of London to service Regent Street, one of the capitals busiest visitor areas.

Tony Mannix, managing director of Clipper,  said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for these two important developments at Wynyard Park and Regent Street, not least because they epitomise what we stand for as a business – providing unique, agile and tailored solutions for retail logistics – and we are looking forward to the winners being announced in September.”
