Asda and Clipper have announced a deal to reinstate a 225,000sq ft warehouse in Didcot, to service the retailer’s rapidly growing multichannel general merchandise operation. The refurbished fulfilment centre creates increased capacity, enabling them to offer an extended range of products to customers via the Asda Direct website. The strategic location of the facility will also enhance the flexibility of delivery options for customers.
The announcement builds on the successful and long standing Clipper/Asda relationship – which includes Asda’s general merchandise on-line solutions, as well as import deconsolidation of the Asda George Clothing brand, serviced out of the bespoke 800,000sq ft facility at Wynyard Park, which was opened in 2012.
Clipper’s unique mix of ability and agility, has worked for a wide range of retailers across all sales platforms. This contract will see Clipper support Asda by bringing its expertise in the bigger 2-man categories.
Derek Hunt of Clipper said: “Multichannel retail has a specific range of challenges and Clipper has established a reputation as leaders in this field. This new development for Asda demonstrates their confidence in us as a trusted logistics partner.”
“The flexibility of our approach and our ability to meet unique requirements means that customer stock can be processed efficiently and effectively for any retail format, whether that be online or on the shelves. Items can be processed quickly, meaning we have them ready for retail in very short timeframes.”
Paul Anastasiou, Head of Development for Asda 玩嘉电竞 Services, said: “This is an exciting development for Asda, providing significant capacity and capability in a rapidly expanding area of our business.”
Clipper’s shared user model will also present opportunities for Asda and other businesses to increase productivity and reduce costs.
