Clipper, the UK’s leading high value, retail and e-fulfillment logistics provider, has won a prestigious award for their new warehouse facility on Teesside. Clipper won the Distribution and Warehouse Initiative of the Year at the annual Retail Week Supply Chain Awards, for the Asda George clothing import facility at Wynyard Park.
The award recognised the sustainable solution Clipper has put in place to handle imports of Asda George clothing, for onward distribution throughout the UK. The site has the capacity to handle 3m items per week, and creates the ability to transfer stock from dockside to shop-floor ready, within 24 hours.
Earlier this year, the site was praised by Secretary of State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin, who commented: “Clipper are working closely with other regional partners to bring jobs to the North East, as well as bringing innovation to the sector by streamlining the distribution process. I was impressed to see the scale of operations and interested to learn about their contribution to the regional economy and national transport strategy.”
Tony Mannix – Managing Director, Clipper said: “Winning this award reinforces our claim as the UKs leader provider of retail logistics solutions and shows our ongoing success as the brand continues to grow. The Wynyard DC was designed specifically to create flexibility and provide retailers with a faster, slicker and more environmentally conscious service, whilst reducing cost.”
The news comes at an exciting time for Clipper, who have announced several major new contract wins in 2013. The company adds another award to its collection, having won Green Supply Chain Initiative of the Year at the ceremony in 2012, and reaffirms Clipper’s status in retail logistics.
