The Clipper Academy has been recognised for employer excellence for the programme at Wynyard Park deconsolidation centre, which has seen almost 150 people trained and offered full time employment since mid 2012. The retail logistics specialists were highly commended for the scheme, at a special awards ceremony hosted by the Yorkshire Training Partnership (YTP). The Clipper Academy delivers workplace training and professional qualifications for employees.
Over 18 months, the programme has offered training to unemployed people and delivered qualifications in a variety of subjects, ranging from maths and environmental awareness to forklift truck driving. The scheme has been delivered alongside DC Training and is supported by the YTP.
Carl Muir, Head of Port Deconsolidation at Clipper said: “We knew we were being ambitious when we embarked on this programme in summer 2012, but we’re delighted with how successful it has been. Over 95% of people who have enrolled on The Academy have been successful in gaining jobs, with all of them progressing onto NVQ or apprenticeships programmes. To be recognised by the YTP is testament to the hard work done by everyone at our Wynyard site.”

To see so many people move from unemployment into training, gaining up to six qualifications, then into employment and further training, makes Clipper Wynyard very worthy of this award.”
During the awards ceremony, Clipper employee Emma Hatch, was also presented with the Workplace Learner of the Year Award in recognition of her performance and development at Wynyard. Over the life of the project to date, 685 qualifications have been delivered on The Academy programme, with 130 staff training through apprenticeships. Currently, there are a further 60 people on the programme.
