Clipper – the UK’s leading retail and high value logistics provider – is delighted to have won the bronze award in the Best Green Service Innovation category at the International Green Awards 2011. The awards were presented at the Natural History Museum in London on 24th November and were attended by influencers, leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators from across the globe.
The Best Green Service Innovation category recognises initiatives that incorporate genuine sustainability benefits whilst meeting consumers’ needs for services. Clipper has been recognised for its freight consolidation centre initiatives – for Regent Street, Meadowhall and Tyne and Wear – which offer practical and environmental solutions to shopping and town centre congestion.
The consolidation centres take delivery of retailers’ stock to a secure offsite warehouse away from the congested area; after applying value-added pre-retailing services, the individual deliveries are then consolidated into a single route for all retailers. This then eliminates multiple freight journeys into the congested areas and allows our customers to concentrate on their customers. Tony Mannix, Clipper’s Managing Director, said: “Our consolidation centres reduce congestion and environmental impact in some of the country’s busiest retail areas. They improve access to the sites, creating a much-improved experience for customers, which in turn can help to increase economic activity.
“We are delighted that these initiatives have been recognised in this way and we are extremely proud to have attained the bronze award in such a hotly contested category. The concept is simple, but the benefits to our retail customers and the environment are tremendous.”
Launched in 2006 to critical acclaim, the International Green Awards were designed to recognise strategies that use creativity in an engaging and effective manner, leading to more sustainable outcomes. The awards are now an established event on the global sustainable business calendar.
